TORONTO, May 25, 2001 -- Warren M. H. Grover, Q.C., partner emeritus at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and current holder of the Falconbridge Professorship in Commercial Law at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, will deliver this year’s Falconbridge Lecture on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 5.30 p.m. at the Osgoode Professional Development Centre, One Dundas Street West (north tower of the Eaton Centre), Suite 2602, Toronto.
The topic of Mr. Grover’s presentation will be "Tortious Liability in Corporate Governance." There is no fee to attend the lecture, which will be followed by a reception.

Mr. Grover, who became partner emeritus of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in 1999 but continues to practise law, has focused on international work for governments, competition litigation, restructurings of insolvent corporations, mergers and acquisitions, financings and corporate governance. His clients have included the Government of Canada and many of the largest Canadian corporations. He has written on corporate and competition issues, and is currently the editor of the Canada Corporation Manual and the Ontario Corporation Manual.
A noted lawyer and scholar in the areas of corporate law and competition law, Mr. Grover is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BASc, LLB) and the University of California at Berkeley (LLM). He practised at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP prior to joining Osgoode in 1969 as a full-time faculty member. In 1977, he returned to the firm while continuing to teach part-time at Osgoode. As well as teaching a Business Associations course, he recently developed the Law School’s new and unique Intensive Program in Business Law.
The Falconbridge Professorship in Commercial Law and its associated public lecture is an endowed position that commemorates the scholarly legacy of John D. Falconbridge, who graduated from Osgoode in 1899 and served as Dean from 1927 to 1947. He was the country's leading scholar of Commercial Law. The professorship reflects Osgoode's commitment to teaching and research in the legal problems of business. Previous holders have been Lord Wedderburn of Charlton (London School of Economics), Professor R.M. Goode (Queen Mary College, London), Professor E.P. Ellinger (National University of Singapore) and Professor Yoshio Ohara (Kobe University, Japan).
