York U. Opens Teacher Education Centre at Georgian College

TORONTO, May 24, 2001 -- York University’s Faculty of Education will officially open its new teacher education centre at Georgian College in Barrie region with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 29th. The ceremony marks the launch of York’s consecutive teacher education program with Georgian College.

The new teacher education centre offers a one-year program for students who have completed an undergraduate degree, and leads to a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and recommendation for the Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification and registration. An estimated 45 to 60 York teacher candidates will benefit from the program which allows them to practice teach in surrounding feeder schools for up to 120 days. York’s Faculty of Education has thirteen Consecutive Teacher Education Programs in ten sites across the GTA.
