York U exercise researcher, professor and father available for interviews
TORONTO, November 13, 2018 – World Diabetes Day is on November 14 and this year’s theme is “The Family and Diabetes.” According to recent research from the International Diabetes Federation, less than 1 in 4 family members have access to diabetes education programmes. The IDF data shows four-in-five parents would have difficulty recognising the warning signs of diabetes and one-in-three wouldn’t spot them at all.
York University Faculty of Health Professor Michael Riddell is not only an exercise researcher but has also been living with T1D since he was 14 years old. He also has two family members who also live with type 1. As a global expert on exercise metabolism and stress physiology, and as a parent of a newly diagnosed adolescent with T1D, Professor Riddell continues to motivate and educate on the benefits and challenges of being physically active while living with diabetes.
