York University officially opens a bright new addition to Osgoode Hall Law School

 TORONTO, Ontario, April 19, 2012 – The newly renovated and expanded Ignat Kaneff Building at Osgoode Hall Law School opened officially on Wednesday.

The $57-million renovation and expansion of Osgoode Hall Law School’s 43-year-old building by Diamond Schmitt Architects included 192,000 square feet of renovation and 23,000 square feet of new construction.

Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Vaughan MPP Gregory Sorbara attended the opening of project which was financed with $12.5 million of federal funding under the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, a $12.5 million matching provincial contribution, and $32 million in funding from the university and donors including Ignat Kaneff. 

The new facility, which meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification standards, includes Gowlings Hall, a soaring atrium that forms the east-west spine of the law school, new student lounges and social spaces and a reconfigured law library.
