TORONTO, August 30, 2011 – Today Dr. Mamdouh Shoukri, president and vice-chancellor of York University, announced that the University is preparing for the largest enrolment class in its history.
“I am proud that York University is growing, particularly in the areas of science and engineering, and health,” says Dr. Shoukri. “More and more students are coming to our University because of the strength of our academic programs, faculty and staff.”
York’s overall and international applications, first year enrolment, international students and many faculties are seeing a rise as York meets or exceeds its targets based on its programming goals for 2011-12.
“Our campus continues to grow, our student body continues to become more diverse and vibrant,” continued Dr. Shoukri. “This is an exciting time for York.”
York U Quick Facts for 2011
Higher Enrolment: We are on track to enrol our largest class, with close to 55,000 students.
More Applications: For 2011, almost 54,000 secondary school and non-secondary school applications – an increase of 2.4% (Source: OUAC, August 2011).
More International Applicants: For 2011, more than 5,900 applicants – an increase of 4.0%.
Increased Student Intake: For Fall 2011 – Increased student intake to 11,100 spaces. This is an increase over last year due to more applications in our programs in health, science and applied science.
Increased International Student Intake: To date, over 1,500 international students have enrolled for Fall 2011. This is compared to our target of close to 1,000 spaces this year and the 900-student intake last year.
Increased Student Quality: The entering averages of the 2011 class have increased. The average student entrance grade will be in excess of 80% this year.
