Former UWO quarterback returning to London as York U Lions offensive co-ordinator
TORONTO, May 6, 2011 – Michael Faulds, York University Lions offensive co-ordinator and former University of Western Ontario Mustangs quarterback, returns to London, Ont., this weekend to coach in the East West Bowl.
Fresh off the announcement that he will lead the Canadian world football team later this year and his guest coaching invitation with Lane Kiffin at the University of Southern California last month, Faulds looks to direct an explosive West squad in a game that showcases future professional football talent.
"I'm at a really exciting time in my life right now. Coach Craney, Coach Laflamme and myself have brought in our first great recruiting class together at York and are extremely excited about it. I have also been announced as a member of Canada's Senior Men's Football Team and I have the privilege of being back in London to coach the East West Bowl this week," said Faulds. “The stadium here in London brings back a lot of great playing memories, but this week I am here to represent York and my coaching abilities.”
Faulds, one of the best quarterbacks to play Canadian university football, will play the same role for the Canadian entry at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) senior men's world football championship in Austria in July. The Eden Mills, Ont., native was one of 18 players named by Football Canada to the initial roster of the Canadian team competing for world supremacy from July 8-16 in Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz.
Prior to joining the Lions coaching staff, Faulds, who holds the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) record for career passing yards (10,811), led the Mustangs to conference titles in 2007 and 2008, earning game MVP honours on both occasions.
He is back in London this week along with several other members of the Lions. Head coach Warren Craney is the linebackers coach and defensive co-ordinator Harry Laflamme will fulfill that same role for the West this week. It was also announced on Thursday that Barry Kilmas has been added to the West coaching staff working with receivers. On the field, three Lions student-athletes will be playing in the game: receiver Lashane Oldacre, defensive back Ryan Poroznik and defensive lineman Patrick Russell.
