Share

TORONTO, April 15, 2010 -- On Friday, April 23 at 2:30pm, the 3D Film Innovation Consortium (3D FLIC) will present research projects in progress and on the horizon, including a demonstration of a state-of-the-art 3D camera rig.

3D FLIC is a two-year academic/industry partnership that will expand capacity for 3D film production in the GTA and Ontario. With over $1.4 million in support from the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and in-kind industry and institutional support, it is the largest single project funded in the fourth round of funding from the OMDC’s Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund.

3D FLIC promises to develop practical solutions to create better production technologies and processes for 3D film to benefit the film industry as a whole. In this unique convergence of academia, industry, art and science, academic research will translate into applied knowledge for the film industry.

Presentation highlights include:

  • preview of The 3D Camera Company’s new Hawkeye 3D stereoscopic camera and demo 3D footage on a 46” 3D monitor
  • demo of 2D to 3D conversion research by Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC)
  • demo reel from Starz Animation Toronto
