Canada’s top constitutional law experts analyze 2009 Supreme Court of Canada constitutional decisions

TORONTO, April 14, 2010 -- Canada’s leading constitutional scholars and practitioners will offer practical and thoughtful analysis of noteworthy 2009 Supreme Court of Canada constitutional decisions at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University’s 13th annual Constitutional Cases Conference on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 9am to 4:45pm at Osgoode Professional Development Centre, 1 Dundas St. W., 26th floor, Toronto.

Chaired by three respected constitutional law experts – Patrick Monahan, Vice-President Academic and Provost of York University, and Osgoode Hall Law School Professors Jamie Cameron and Bruce Ryder – the conference will begin at 9am with an overview by Monahan of last year’s Supreme Court constitutional decisions. 

 

That will be followed by a preview of upcoming rulings by Ryder, a plenary session on The Charter and Omar Khadr and breakout sessions on Freedom of the Press and the Rights of the Media, Freedom of Expression and Association as well as Criminal Law – Legal Rights and Remedies and Federalism/Securities Reference. The conference will conclude with a plenary session on Freedom of Religion. The luncheon keynote speaker will be Rebecca Snyder, Deputy Director, Navy-Marine Corps Appellate Defense Division (USA), whose topic will be “Military Commissions and the Case of Child Soldier Omar Khadr.”
