TORONTO, March 16, 2010 -- Professor Craig Scott of Osgoode Hall Law School at York University has written to the pre-prorogation Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan. The letter from Scott asks a number of questions including whether Canada has been sending Afghan detainees to the Afghan authorities while knowing that torture is among the methods they use.
Scott, who is director of Osgoode's Nathanson Centre on Transnational Human Rights, Crime and Security, includes links in his letter to presentations made on February 8 at York during a Special Forum on Afghanistan, organized by Osgoode Hall Law School and the Nathanson Centre. The letter also includes information from his February 10 presentation to the Special Committee, in Ottawa.
