TORONTO, March 23, 2009 -- La Cité collégiale, and Glendon College at York University, are combining their expertise to promote training and education in French at the postsecondary level in Ontario. The two postsecondary institutions are signing a framework agreement which will offer students theoretical and practical training in the field of media and communications.
“This partnership establishes an important form of collaboration, providing greater access to postsecondary education in French in Ontario and assisting our students in the pursuit of a university education,” said Andrée Lortie, President of La Cité collégiale, based in Ottawa.
The agreement is the first of its kind between La Cité collégiale and Glendon College.
“Collaboration with Francophone colleges is an essential part of Glendon’s mission as the Centre of Excellence for French-Language and Bilingual Postsecondary Education,” said Kenneth McRoberts, Principal of Glendon College. “With agreements of this kind, Glendon will be in a better position to satisfy the needs of its Francophone and Francophile students.”
The partnership between the two institutions will take advantage of their respective expertise, to develop courses and programs geared towards Francophones in Ontario. The two institutions are also exploring the possibility of developing a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication, which would comprise courses offered at Glendon and result in a double accreditation for students. In addition, as of September, graduates from the Public Relations program of La Cité collégiale will have access to courses offered by Glendon, working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies (with Communication as an option).
La Cité collégiale is the leading French-language college of applied arts and technology in Ontario. It offers 85 programs and serves 15,000 clients annually.
Part of York University, Glendon College is the only fully bilingual liberal arts faculty in Canada. It offers a variety of programs in the humanities and social sciences.
