TORONTO, November 26, 2008 -- Osgoode Hall Law School will be restarting classes on Monday, December 1.
The Executive Committee of Senate approved the Remediation Plan put forward by the Dean and endorsed by the Osgoode Faculty Council and the VP Academic and Provost on Tuesday, November 26.
York University recognizes that the strike by CUPE 3903 impacts all members of the York community. However, the Osgoode program is in a unique position as it is governed by external regulations set out by the Law Society of Upper Canada and the National Committee on Accreditation. In addition, CUPE instructors teach virtually none of the classes. The failure to restart now would also impact on community legal clinics staffed by Osgoode students, which provide services to low income communities.
Restarting classes in all faculties is of utmost importance. The University remains committed to get all of our students back in class as soon as possible.
Osgoode students who choose not to participate in the resumed classes will continue to receive the protections and accommodations set out in the Senate legislation.
