TORONTO, August 11, 2008 -- The Tait McKenzie Centre continues to serve as a shelter to a number of local residents displaced by the major explosion and fire in the Keele Street /Wilson Road area on Sunday.

All indoor sports and recreation programming at Tait McKenzie is cancelled for Tuesday. However, a volleyball clinic for players and coaches has been relocated, and field sports will continue as planned.

More than 180 people took refuge at Tait McKenzie on Sunday following the explosion and fire at Sunrise Propane, on Murray Road, southeast of the University, and approximately 50 people remained at the shelter late Monday.

Toronto Mayor David Miller thanked York University, the Salvation Army and Red Cross, during a media conference on Monday afternoon for their help and support during the evacuation and shelter effort.
