TORONTO, November 9, 2007 -- The York Lions men’s and women’s soccer teams have both made it to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national semi-finals and are just two wins away from national supremacy. Both teams will play semi-final games on Saturday, Nov. 10.
The men’s team beat the Saint Mary’s Huskies 2-1 in Vancouver on Thursday in a CIS championship quarter-final. The Lions (15-1-2) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to lock up the berth in the semi-final game against the host UBC Thunderbirds, who beat the Montreal Carabins 2-0 in Thursday’s final quarter-final. Game time for the semi-final on Saturday is 4:30 pm Toronto time (1:30 pm local time).
The Lions women’s team defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in the quarter-final in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The next obstacle in their bid for a CIS championship comes in the form of the Canada West finalist Victoria Vikes. The Lions women’s team will face the Vikes in the semi-final on Saturday at noon Toronto time (1 p.m. local time).
