York University marks milestone with 200,000th graduate

TORONTO, June 13, 2007 -- York University’s alumni community will officially reach 200,000 strong at tomorrow’s convocation ceremonies, marking an important milestone for the York community.

Kaley Roosen, an undergraduate student in York’s new Faculty of Health, will become the university’s 200,000th graduate during the faculty’s convocation ceremony on Thursday, June 14 at 10:30 am.

“Reaching 200,000 alumni is an important milestone because it shows how far we've come in such a relatively short time,” says Naguib Gouda, executive director, alumni & advancement services. "Today, we’re a major presence in Canada, with alumni in the GTA, across Canada and in 146 countries around the world.”

Roosen will receive a Bachelor of Science with Specialized Honours, Majoring in Psychology. She will graduate Summa Cum Laude, “with highest honours."

”She really embodies the spirit of York today – a successful scholar who is dynamic and committed to giving back to her community,” Gouda says.

During her undergraduate career at York, Roosen was the recipient of an Award of Distinction from the Faculty of Science & Engineering, the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship, as well as a scholarship from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science. She is the Coordinator of York’s Peer Support Centre, and an active participant on university committees involving improved accessibility for students.

After graduation, Roosen will continue her studies at York by pursuing a Master of Arts in Psychology.
