York community saddened by tragic death of Chantel Dunn

TORONTO, February 8, 2006 -- The York University community is shocked and saddened to learn of the shooting death of Chantel Dunn in the incident that happened Monday evening while she was driving in Toronto.

"All of us at York are devastated to hear the news of this tragic event. Our thoughts are with Chantel’s family and friends, and we ask that people respect their privacy at this most challenging time," said Rob Tiffin, vice-president students. "The police are conducting an investigation and we will offer whatever assistance we can."

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Neweduk Funeral Home, 1981 Dundas West, Mississauga.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 11 a.m. at Praise Cathedral Worship Centre, 6785 Millcreek Drive, Mississauga. A final visitation will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. 

Chantel's family requests that those attending the funeral bring a single white rose to represent the bright, shining star that Chantel was, and to reflect that she is an innocent victim of crime.

Counselling services are available to York students through the Counselling and Development Centre (and to Atkinson students through their faculty). Faculty and staff members can seek counselling through the Employee Assistance Program.
