TORONTO, June 29, 2005 -- In response to today’s Ontario Government cabinet changes, York University President & Vice-Chancellor Lorna Marsden offered her sincere thanks to outgoing Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, Mary Anne Chambers for her exceptional contribution to post-secondary education in Ontario. Marsden also welcomed Chris Bentley to the post-secondary education portfolio from the Ministry of Labour.
Minister Chambers was at York University earlier this month to participate in spring convocation ceremonies. “On behalf of York University, I thank you most sincerely for the great work you did with us at York – and indeed all Ontario universities – over the past two years,” said Marsden. “Your strong commitment to improving post-secondary education has been remarkable and will certainly help to ensure a brighter future for Ontario’s universities, students and all Ontarians. I wish you well in your new role as the Minister for Children and Youth Services.”
Minister Chambers held the Training, Colleges and Universities portfolio during the Ontario government’s landmark post-secondary education review, which led to the centrepiece “Reaching Higher” plan outlined in the spring budget.
Marsden expressed optimism that the provincial government’s commitment to higher education and improved funding for post-secondary institutions would continue to flourish under Minister Bentley. “I look forward to working with you closely and wish you every success in this new role.”
