TORONTO, March 22, 2005 -- York University fine arts alum Paul Sarossy is the recipient of this year’s Genie Award for Achievement in Cinematography for his work in the film Head in the Clouds.

Sarossy, a graduate of York’s Film and Video program, won accolades from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television for his lush rendering of the war-time drama starring Charlize Theron.

This is not the first such award for Sarossy, who is the recipient of Genies for the films Exotica [1994], The Sweet Hereafter [1997], Felicia’s Journey [2000], and Perfect Pie [2003].

The Canadian-produced Head in the Clouds also took home Genies for best original score, editing and costume design. The film tells the story of a love triangle set alongside the ranks of French resistance fighters during the Second World War.

Other films nominated in the Achievement in Cinematography category were: Childstar, André Turpin; Le Dernier Tunnel / The Last Tunnel, Bernard Couture; Ma vie en cinemascope, Pierre Mignot; and Nouvelle-France, Louis De Ernsted.

York University grads had a strong showing at the Genies this year; a total of six former students were up for awards.
