York U’s Upfront Theatre presents Cycle of Violence Seminar

Event to feature guest speakers, film screening

TORONTO, March 18, 2005 -- On Wednesday, March 23, 2005, York University student organization Upfront Theatre Foundation will present The Cycle of Violence Seminar.

 

The seminar will feature keynote speaker Professor Livy Visano, Coordinator of the Sociology program, Atkinson College, York University.

 

Hosted by students in the Concurrent Education Program at the Faculty of Education and members of Upfront Theatre Foundation, the seminar is part of the Community Experiential Education Program.

 

Presentations by: Arnold Minor (Community Safety Secretariat), David Mitchell (Association of Black Law Enforcer), Dudley Laws (Black Action Defense Committee), Jamal Clarke (Friends in Trouble), Kemba Byam (York University’s Women Centre), Sgt. Bill Russell (CPS Youth Service), Rino Iannone (Parents Against Violence Everywhere), Pastor Don Meredith (GTA Christian Alliance and Black Community Police Consultative Committee), and Bob Hill (Toronto Artists For A Better World).

 

Screening of: Youth Against Violence video documentary sponsored by the National Crime Prevention Centre, Grace Kennedy, Western Union and Elementary Teachers’ Association.

 

The Cycle of Violence seminar is sponsored by Canadian Heritage in association with the March 8 - 21 Coalition, York University Faculty Association, School of Women’s Studies, Pepsi Fund, and the Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development.

 

 

WHEN:                         Wednesday, March 23, from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

 

 

WHERE:                       The seminar will take place in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, Room 140, located in the Health, Nursing and Environmental Studies Building at York University.
