The entire community of York University wishes to express our condolences and support for the peoples of South Asia and East Africa affected by the recent devastating tsunami.  As the Winter term commences on January 3rd, York will be announcing details of how the York community can acknowledge this disaster and express its support to the survivors and their communities.

At the same time, York asks that its members with connections to the affected regions make it known if any of our students, faculty, staff or alumni have been directly affected. Please e-mail us at presidnt@yorku.ca. York University President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna Marsden said: "We are very concerned to find out if any members of the York community have been directly affected."  We also urge the community to do everything it can to help the relief effort in any way. York University will shortly be announcing further details of institutional efforts to mark this terrible tragedy and offer its ongoing support.
