TORONTO, December 3, 2004 -- York University will hold a series of events on Monday December 6 to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The events are part of a national day to commemorate the 14 women (13 students and one staff) who were slain on December 6, 1989 at l'École Polytechnique in Montréal because of their gender.
In response, the Government of Canada established December 6 as a national day of remembrance. Beyond commemorating the loss of these fourteen women, this day represents a time to pause and reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in society.
