TORONTO, November 9, 2004 -- Alan Middleton, a marketing professor and successful alumnus from the Schulich School of Business at York University and Schulich alumnus Paul Alofs (MBA’ 83), President and CEO of Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, were among the inaugural inductees in the new Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends, established to celebrate Canada’s great marketing success stories.
Middleton (MBA ’77, PhD ’97), an assistant professor of Marketing and Executive Director of the Schulich Executive Education Centre, was the lone inductee in the Mentors category, which pays tribute to individuals who have promoted excellence in Canadian marketing through academia, philanthropy or other initiatives. Middleton is a former President and CEO of advertising agency giant J. Walter Thompson (JWT) Japan and a former Director of JWT Worldwide. He is a frequent contributor to Marketing Magazine and a popular media commentator on a wide range of marketing issues.
Alofs was inducted in the Builders Category, which pays tribute to corporate leaders who have built or led enduring brands and organizations. He is the former President of HMV Canada and helped make the company the Canadian leader in recording retailing. He is also a past recipient of the 1994 Schulich Alumni Recognition Award for Outstanding Progress and Achievement.
Middleton and Alofs will be honoured at a black tie gala at the Liberty Grand in Toronto on January 27, 2005 together with eight other inaugural inductees to the Marketing Hall of Legends.
