TORONTO, October 28, 2004 -- York is one of only four Canadian universities to be honoured last night with the Scotiabank-AUCC Awards for Excellence in Internationalization, in recognition of innovative programs that help students prepare for a more global world. The awards recognize institutions for their excellence in forming a future generation of political, social, cultural and business leaders able to understand and make the most of a world increasingly interconnected by technology, trade and travel.
“We are delighted and honoured to be recognized for our efforts to prepare our students for a global future,” said Louise Lewin, Associate Principal (Student Affairs) of York’s Glendon College.

York University, through the Glendon College Student Annual International Studies Symposium, has provided students with the opportunity to celebrate the importance of global education and boasts an array of tools geared to promoting internationalization. The Symposium is a project conceived and managed entirely by students, whose aim is to promote cultural and intellectual collaboration among colleagues from all around the world. The program was initiated in 1995 by a group of students eager to deepen their knowledge and experience of foreign countries or regions and to understand more fully their relationships with Canada. Some of the countries and regions that have been the subject of symposia to date include India, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and Southeast Asia.
