York and Peking University to sign partnership agreement

Will strengthen higher education ties between Canada and China

                                                                                                                                                             

TORONTO, September 28, 2004 – York University and Peking University, China’s number one ranked university, will sign a partnership agreement on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 6.p.m., in the Dean's Boardroom (Room North 300) of York’s Schulich School of Business.

 

Vice-President Academic Sheila Embleton will sign the agreement on behalf of York and Vice-President Wu Zhipan on behalf of Peking University. The agreement includes facilitating student, faculty and research exchanges between the two universities.

 

The signing is part of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) Canada-China Roundtable on Higher Education Partnerships -- featuring 35 Chinese universities -- taking place in Toronto this week. A delegation from 13 of the universities will visit York earlier in the day.

 

The signing ceremony will also be attended by the Consul General of China Chen Xiaoling and York President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna Marsden.
