TORONTO, June 23, 2004 -- York University is very pleased with its strong admissions data for September, says Vice-President Academic Sheila Embleton. The figures recently released by the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) reflect York’s strong applicant pool this year, both in terms of quality and quantity.
“Not only are these results in line with our historical levels, they also represent a great achievement in the competitive environment for new students this year,” Embleton said. “York has both maintained these high school ‘101’ levels and maintained the quality of our incoming class.”
"York University is in a very strong position,” said Embleton. “The current statistics for students coming directly from an Ontario high school make us very confident that we will achieve our final numbers. We also normally admit a very significant group each summer from groups other than recent Ontario high school graduates - mature students, international students, students who chose to work for a year before continuing, students from other provinces. Many of these students deal with our admissions office directly rather than with the application centre, and so are not captured fully in the OUAC statistics. We have had a surge in this second group of ‘105’ applicants this year, and they will take up the remainder of our spaces and enable us to meet our admission goals without lowering standards.”
