St. George Subway station gets York U. makeover... Students bring university spirit downtown to morning commuters

Share

TORONTO, May 2, 2004 – Subway commuters passing through the St. George Subway station tomorrow morning (Monday, May 3) will be greeted by spirited York University students, cheerleaders and the York Lions mascots and will receive free buttons and giveaways.

Commuters will also discover that the entire subway station has been transformed to York’s colours – red and white – as part of the university’s high visibility public campaign.

The event is intended to draw attention to York’s unique interdisciplinary program and degree offerings, its economic contribution to the GTA and the need to extend the Spadina subway line from Downsview to the Keele campus.

There will be a breakfast and press conference a block away at the Duke of York Pub, located at 39 Prince Arthur St. (off Bedford), beginning at 10 a.m.

York President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden and York representatives will be on hand for interviews.

A photo opportunity at the St. George Subway station will follow.
