Foundation and tennis promotional campaign also win accolades

TORONTO, February 27, 2004 -- York University ranked among the top schools in North America by winning three awards for education advancement at an industry conference held this month in Philadelphia. Competing against some of the best known schools in the Eastern U.S. and Central Canada, York won one gold and two bronze medals for its promotional and fundraising campaigns.

In awarding a gold medal to “York is U”, the university’s two-year-old alumni program, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) said it was a strong newcomer in its category. Judges gave the program’s volunteers and staff high marks for spirit, technique and success in encouraging students to have a life-long association with their university. The judges also noted that the “York is U” program exceeded all the goals and objectives of the category.

York also earned two bronze medals for fundraising and promotional campaigns in its district. The York University Foundation was awarded a bronze medal for its success as one of the first incorporated charitable foundations at a Canadian university. Judges noted the foundation had achieved tremendous results using creative fund-raising initiatives, repeatable strategies and a comprehensive approach. York’s “Tennis Eyes” campaign produced by the Communications Division and featuring York as home to the 2003 Rogers AT&T Women’s Tennis Championship, was recognized with a bronze medal for being “engaging, catchy” with a “strong message”.

CASE annually recognizes excellence in the field of educational advancement through its Accolade awards program. Awards are given to institutions in different geographic districts for success in areas such as student recruitment, alumni relations, fundraising, government relations, public and media relations and publications.
