TORONTO, September 17, 2003 -- The York University Foundation hosts its first anniversary Celebration Dinner on Monday, Sept. 22 at The Metropolitan Hotel with a keynote address by CNN anchor and host of the current affairs program Insight, Jonathan Mann.

A York alumnus and native of Montreal, Mann will discuss international perceptions of Canada in the wake of SARS and the war in Iraq. Mann is a 20-year veteran of print, radio and television journalism. Currently based in Atlanta, he has covered a multitude of international news events, recently reporting on the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Middle East conflict, and the war in Iraq. Before joining CNN he was a writer for United Press International (UPI) and the Montreal Gazette.

The York University Foundation annual dinner celebrates the generosity of donors, including alumni and major benefactors, and local community support for York students, faculty, academic programs and building projects. This past year, fundraising support for York increased by 38 per cent.

Multi-talented musical artist Jian Ghomeshi will entertain guests as Master of Ceremonies at this year’s celebration. A York alumnus, Ghomeshi is host of the CBC’s slick national arts and entertainment program Play. The generous support of The Metropolitan Hotel has helped to make this evening possible.
