TORONTO, March 13, 2003 -- The Dance Department of York University presents Dance Innovations, a four-day festival of choreography spotlighting fresh works by York’s senior dance students and respected guests from the dance community. The festival takes place March 19 to 22 and will also feature three performances by York University’s touring repertory company, the York Dance Ensemble (YDE).

Dance Innovations is split into rotations of three separate 90-minute programs all inspired by tropical fruit and the promise of spring:

Show A - Star Fruit: a new ensemble piece by Carol Anderson, Dust , with live music by Erik Geddis, plus seven short student works, all performed by Anderson’s 3rd year repertory class. Classic pop songs from the 60s and 70s serve as the backdrop to this large work exploring the beginnings and endings of relationships.

Show B - Dragon Fruit: a showcase of curricular work from Holly Small’s 4th year choreography class, including several short pieces loosely linked by the music of John Cage and a group multi-media work employing interactive computer technology, voice, movement, poetry and light.

Show C - Passion Fruit: the YDE’s new repertoire featuring works by Danny Grossman, Andrea Nann, Donna Krasnow, Motaz Kabbani, Lucie Grégoire and Julye Huggins.
