TORONTO, February 5, 2003 -- Representatives from the health care and human service sectors will gather at York University for a Forum to explore critical challenges related to behaviour, lifestyle and social determinants of heart health.
The first-time event, entitled, "Behaviour, Lifestyle and Social Determinants of Heart Health: From Research to Policy, Planning, Programmes and Services," will take place February 20, 2003, at Founder’s College, Room 152, York University, 4700 Keele St.
The Forum will bring together public officials, administrators, volunteers, private sector representatives, educators and health practitioners.
Dr. Lawrence W. Green, international researcher and author of the "Precede-Proceed" health promotion planning framework, will give the keynote address. Dr. Green is professor of health promotion and director of the Office of Extramural Prevention Research at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
"Led by Dr. Green’s keynote address and assisted by facilitators, this day will be an interactive case study process resulting in a Position Statement on issues affecting heart health and the future of Canadian quality of life," said Dr. Joseph Levy, a professor in York’s Atkinson School of Health Policy and Management and one of the Forum organizers.
The Forum, sponsored by York University and the Toronto Heart Health Partnership, is taking place during Heart & Stroke month.
