TORONTO, November 21, 2002 -- York University’s Department of Dance presents Convergence, a culturally rich presentation of eleven fresh works choreographed and produced by the current Graduate Dance class. Performances take place November 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm in Burton Auditorium.
Convergence offers a diverse range of dance idioms performed by an impressive group of emerging international dancer-choreographers. This creative performance mix will include works by Six Nations dance artist Santee Smith and former Guangdong Modern Dance Company of China member Zihao Li; a Ghanaian ritual dance by Isaac Akrong; new work by local choreographer and Breaking Ground artistic director Michael Sean Marye; Barbara McQuarrie’s biblically inspired Mary; and an adrenaline-charged presentation by Eddison Lindsay, former star of The Lion King, artistic director of COBA (Coalition of Black Artists) and current Danny Grossman Company dancer.
York University’s Master of Arts in Dance is a two-year program offering the study of dance through historical research, critical writing, ethnology, movement analysis and reconstruction. Graduates from the program are currently involved in choreography, teaching, writing, performing and work in libraries, archives and museums.
