TORONTO, March 27, 2002 --Voices 2002, York's annual Visual Arts Open House, a diverse group show featuring the inspired work of over 100 emerging artists, runs April 5 and 6 throughout the Joan & Martin Goldfarb Centre for Fine Arts, York University.
Voices 2002 celebrates creative explorations in various media, including digital art, print media, sculpture, painting, mixed media, photography, video, performance art, installation work and more. This exciting, substantial exhibit transforms the Fine Arts centre into an über-gallery exposing the talents of student artists on the cusp of graduation as well as select pieces by promising contributors from the second and third year streams.
The open house serves as an excellent opportunity for visitors to interact with the next generation of visual artists. Perhaps more key, this exciting event celebrates these creatively diverse emerging 'voices' who are completing their professional training under the mentorship of some of Canada's leading visual artists. Visual Arts faculty include Jon Baturin, Ted Bieler, Claude Breeze, Michael Davey, Hugh LeRoy, Katherine Knight, Janet Jones, Nancy Nicol, Bruce Parsons, Judith Schwarz, Yvonne Singer, Nell Tenhaaf and Tim Whiten.
Toronto-based alumni of York's Visual Arts Department include installation artist Marla Hlady, painters James Lahey and Gretchen Sankey, conceptual artist Daniel Olson, sculptor Cynthia Short, photographer Pamela Williams and multi-media artist Lois Andison.
