"Matter: Ideas with Substance" York/Sheridan Design Grad Show Fuses the Conceptual and the Concrete

TORONTO, March 27, 2002 -- Matter: Ideas with Substance, an exhibition of bleeding edge design work by students graduating from the York University/Sheridan College joint Program in Design, runs April 9 to 13 at the Design Exchange.

Come see a concrete sampling of fresh creative urges by the next wave of the design elite. Matter features innovative multi-media projects, digital explorations, print-oriented commercial work, corporate branding, web design concepts and beyond. The forward-thinking exhibition, organized by the participating students, toasts their collective debut into the professional design realm.Matter includes the most advanced work of over 60 graduating students from the highly respected York/Sheridan program, currently in its third year, which boasts Ontario's only Bachelor of Design degree. York's design graduates are hot properties, often courted for positions prior to completing their studies. They are found all over North America and Europe in myriad creative roles. Distinguished local alumni include Brad McIver, art director of Elle Canada magazine; Catherine Pike, award-winning assistant art director at The Toronto Star; Suzanne Dimma, design editor, Canadian House & Home, Diti Katona of Concrete Design Communications Inc. and Caren Watkins, Chatelaine magazine's art director.Matter runs Tues. April 9 to Sat. April 13 at the Design Exchange, 234 Bay Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturday noon to 5 p.m.. Admission is free. Reception: Saturday at 2 p.m.
