TORONTO, November 22, 2001 -- York University officials, including Board of Governors Chair Marshall A. Cohen, President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden, Chancellor Avie J. Bennett, Faculty of Fine Arts Dean Phillip Silver, and philanthropists Joan and Martin Goldfarb will officially open the newly-named Joan & Martin Goldfarb Centre for Fine Arts, at a reception on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The centre, home to York University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, has been named in recognition of a $3.75-million gift from the Goldfarbs, which includes 67 works by leading artists such as Jean-Paul Riopelle and Milton Avery.
The gift has been used to expand and upgrade visual arts facilities, including the creation of the Joan Goldfarb Visual Arts Study Centre, which will house the collection and provide students and researchers a rare opportunity to study original works of art.
The event will include a tour of the study centre and renovated studios, as well as highlights of the collection.
