TORONTO, July 13, 2001 -- York University officials today expressed their disappointment that Toronto’s bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games had not succeeded.
"We were impressed by the quality of the bid put together by Toronto 2008 Olympic Bid (TO-Bid) and were excited to be a part of it," said York University acting President Sheila Embleton. "I want to congratulate the members of TO-Bid for their vision, their outstanding plan, and their hard work. York was proud to be a part of it." The university would have played host to football competitions and water polo, athletics and field hockey training during the Games.
