Award-winning author Alistair MacLeod, geneticist Dr. Lap-Chee Tsui to receive honorary degrees from York U. tomorrow

TORONTO, June 12, 2001 -- Alistair MacLeod, Dublin literary prize winner for No Great Mischief and Dr. Lap-Chee Tsui, a pre-eminent molecular geneticist credited with identifying the human gene responsible for cystic fibrosis, will receive honorary degrees from York University tomorrow, Wednesday, June 13.

Tsui will receive his honorary Doctor of Science degree (DSc) and will address convocation at 2:30 p.m.

MacLeod will receive his honorary Doctor of Letters degree (DLitt) and will address convocation at 6:30 p.m.

*PLEASE NOTE: MacLeod will be leaving for Dublin, Ireland on Thursday, June 14 to attend the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award ceremonies.

Media welcome to attend. Both convocation ceremonies will be held on York's Keele Campus, in the Convocation tent, located east of the Centre for Film and Theatre, 4700 Keele Street.
