TORONTO, January 4, 2001 -- In a CUPE 3903 Web posting today a recommendation was made that Unit 2 (Contract Teachers) reject the university’s latest contract offer.
It states: "If any unit votes yes and ratifies their agreement separately from the other two units, members of that unit will not be put back on the payroll until all units ratify…"
This is a serious misrepresentation of the university’s position. Members of any unit who accept the university’s offer will be welcome to return to work and will be paid from the moment they do so regardless of the vote of any other unit. This is consistent with the arrangements for the approximately 750 CUPE 3903 members from all three units who have already returned to work.
