TORONTO, December 6, 2013 − York University pays tribute to the late Nelson Mandela as an inspiration in striving toward justice, peace and equality for all citizens of the world.  In 1989, York was privileged to confer on Dr. Mandela in absentia an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree, in recognition of his profound contribution to humanity and the creation of a more just society.
