York University appoints dean to new Lassonde School of Engineering and reappoints leaders in Schulich School of Business and Faculty of Education

TORONTO, June 27, 2012 – York University has appointed Dr. Janusz A. Kozinski as inaugural dean of the university’s new Lassonde School of Engineering, commencing July 1, 2012.

The University’s Board of Governors on Monday approved the establishment of the new Faculty, renamed the Lassonde School of Engineering. Dean Kozinski, who was appointed as dean of the Faculty of Science & Engineering in July, 2010, has overseen the development of detailed plans for the new engineering Faculty, which he will lead until June 30, 2015.

Dr. Donald Hastie, a professor of chemistry specializing in atmospheric chemistry and associate dean in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, will serve as interim dean of the Faculty of Science while a full search is undertaken.

Dr. Dezsö J. Horváth, who has led the Schulich School of Business since 1988 – one of the longest tenures at any business school in the world – has been reappointed as dean for a three-year term starting July 1, 2013.  

Dr. Alice Pitt has been reappointed as dean of the Faculty of Education for a five-year term, also commencing July 1, 2013.
