TORONTO, September 15, 2009 -- The Glendon School of Public & International Affairs at York University is now the institutional home of Global Brief, Canada's new world affairs magazine.

The partnership aims to cement Global Brief as Canada’s sole top-tier magazine dedicated to global affairs and targeting a worldwide readership.

“It is most fitting that the Glendon School of Public & International Affairs should support a top-tier Canadian magazine that explores global issues for a global audience," says Kenneth McRoberts, principal of Glendon College. "The school is committed to teaching and research on public affairs that comprehends the interplay of international and domestic forces. Global Brief will enable Glendon faculty members to make their research known to a larger public and will offer our master’s students the possibility of invaluable editorial experience.”

The upcoming issue of Global Brief – due at the end of October – will feature Louise Arbour, president & CEO of the International Crisis Group and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; former French foreign minister Hubert Védrine; top public intellectual Fareed Zakaria, of CNN and Newsweek; bestselling writer Gwynne Dyer; former Canadian ambassador to Afghanistan Christopher Alexander; former Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) president James Orbinski; former Quebec premier Bernard Landry; former Canadian prime ministerial chief of staff Norman Spector; John W. McArthur, CEO of Millennium Promise; and other top-flight commentators.

“I am delighted that we’ve landed at Glendon,” says Global Brief’s founding editor-in-chief and publisher, Irvin Studin (BBA Spec. Hons. ’99). “The trajectory of the magazine is ambitious, and I think that Glendon is a natural partner to help us realize this vision. Of the half-dozen or so parties around the country that were interested in hosting Global Brief, Glendon was easily the most natural fit.”

Studin, York's most recent Rhodes Scholar, sees Global Brief as Canada’s answer to The Economist, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Le Monde diplomatique and a host of other world-class international affairs media. The publication targets an international readership with in-depth analysis of international politics, business, and culture from global writers. The magazine's print version publishes quarterly, with articles in English and French.

Online, Global Brief is multilingual, with regular articles in English and French and blogs in six different languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, German and Mandarin. Farsi, Arabic, Hebrew and Turkish bloggers will be joining the publication in the coming months.

A launch event will be hosted on the Glendon campus on Nov. 3. For more information, visit the Global Brief website.
