TORONTO, August 22, 2003 – Now that the lights are back on in Ontario, future energy needs and how to ensure we meet them are uppermost in people's minds. York has several faculty members who specialize in energy issues.

Business and the Blackout

Don Thompson, professor of marketing, strategic market planning, market/economic regulations, can offer insights into the economics of power generation in Ontario and the province's competitive position with neighboring U.S. states.

Energy Strategies/Sustainability

David Bell, professor in Environmental Studies, Political Science, Social and Political Thought and a member of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy and the Toronto Sustainability Roundtable.

Rob Macdonald, associate professor in Environmental Studies and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies, teaches and writes on global sustainable development, alternative energy strategies for Canada and community participation in local resource management.

Political Ramifications

Daniel Drache, director of the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies and professor of Political Science, has written widely on globalization, political issues and economic integration.
