TORONTO, June 4, 2018 − York University has successfully completed its Request for Supplier Qualification process and has shortlisted four general contractor organizations to participate in the second stage – the Request for Proposal (tender) for the building of York’s new Markham Centre Campus.

The Request for Supplier Qualification was issued on March 28, 2018 to solicit proposals from potential general contractor firms interested in the construction of the new Markham Centre Campus.

Using the Best Value Analysis approach, the evaluation team reviewed the submissions, interviewed the proponents, arrived at consensus and presented their recommendations to senior management.

The evaluation team was made up of members from York University’s Procurement Services, Campus Services and Business Operations, York University Development Corporation (YUDC)) and Diamond and Schmitt Architects.

The following four firms have been shortlisted:

  • Bird Construction Group
  • EllisDon Corporation
  • Eastern Construction Company Ltd.
  • Walsh Canada

A Request for Proposal will be issued to the four shortlisted general contractors at the end of August and will close in October 2018, after which York University will select the general contractor that will be responsible for the construction of the York University Markham Centre Campus.

Construction of the new campus is expected to begin in November.
