TORONTO, Nov. 25 – In the lead up to the climate change conference in Paris, York University’s Faculty of Environment Studies will host a panel of energy, environment and climate change leaders to discuss the new Trudeau government’s likely direction.

“The October 2015 election is a game-changing event for environmental policy in Canada,” said York Professor Mark Winfield, event chair. “After a decade of federal disengagement, we now have a government that has made substantial commitments to move forward on the environment and climate change. The question now is how those commitments will be turned into action. This panel is designed to help answer that question.”

The following is a list of speakers:

  • Tzeporah Berman – Environmental activist, FES Adjunct Professor and author of This Crazy Time: Living Our Environmental Challenge.
  • John Godfrey – Special advisor to the provincial government on climate change; former minister of state for infrastructure and communities; and federal liberal environment critic.
  • David McLaughlin  – Former chair of the Nation Round Table on the Environment and Economy, and chief of staff for former prime minister Brian Mulroney and New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna.
  • Gord Miller – Past environmental commissioner of Ontario and federal Green Party candidate.
  • Rick Smith – Executive director of the Broadbent Institute.
